Esther and Andrew used the flexibility Oakwell Hall offers by bringing in their chosen caterers. Their choice, FOOD REVIVAL was for us, an inspired choice and opened up our eyes to the challenges facing our environment from food wastage.
All the food provided by Food Revival had been ‘intercepted’ through their relationships with supermarkets and suppliers in the Leeds and Bradford area.
With the vision and culinary skills of the team at OWT (based in Kirkgate Market, Leeds) they put together a feast of canapés, hot and cold buffet and desserts for the wedding guests.
There was no formal menu planning or tasting before the event, it was just a fantastic team effort to bring fresh ingredients on the day which the OWT team then prepared and served alongside volunteers from Food Revival. For us, it was amazing to think they did not know until they arrived and looked through the ingredients, what they would be serving and it ran like they had known all along.
We have since taken the time to look further into what Food Revival is all about and the value it has to their local community.
As a not for profit community interest company made up of volunteers, staff and family they intercept surplus food items. These are then re-distributed through channels such as an open market, food parcels and to support local schools. They work alongside RETHINK FOOD (insert link) who aim to provide awareness, understanding and positive actions linked to food.
It was a pleasure to work alongside the teams and increase our awareness of the impact on food waste and how it can benefit, not damage the hospitality industry we are part of.
